The MfE Data Service gives you free web-based access to the environmental data we publish including on air, atmosphere, climate, fresh water, land and marine.
It provides an application programming interface (API) which allows this data to be automatically accessed by other web services or applications.

The Ministry for the Environment has been releasing open government data about New Zealand's environment since 2009. We were ranked one of the top agencies for adoption of the Declaration of Open and Transparent Government in 2015.
Environmental data is uploaded to the MfE Data Service with the permission of data providers. Licensing is available on the service for each dataset. This defines who to attribute and how the data can be used.
