Paris Agreement on Climate Change: Approval to Begin the Parliamentary Treaty Examination Process

This paper proposes that Cabinet:

• agree to present the Paris Agreement and the national interest analysis for the Paris Agreement to the House of Representatives for Parliamentary treaty examination

• agree to New Zealand’s first nationally determined contribution, and

• agree to New Zealand ratifying the Paris Agreement subject to satisfactory completion of the Parliamentary treaty examination process and New Zealand taking into account ratification by major economies.
