The Expert Working Group on Managed Retreat is chaired by Sir Terence Arnold, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of New Zealand and former Solicitor-General of New Zealand, and is made up of experts on the technical and legal aspects of retreat and adaptation funding, including experts in te ao Māori.
The working group was commissioned to develop advice about the practical, legal, and financial aspects of enabling managed retreat. This advice is intended to inform the development of detailed policy design.
This report will be considered by the Parliamentary Environment Committee as part of its Inquiry into Climate Adaptation, which is looking into options for community-led retreat and adaptation funding.
